Appointments
Routine Appointments
Please book advanced appointments as requested by doctor/nurse/clinical pharmacist. You can book to see our nursing team for lifestyle advise/long term chronic conditions etc. Immunisations you can make an appointment to suit.
Some appointments require more time and need to be booked with appropriate clinician, this is why important to ask what the appointment is for. We have a practice schedule which has whom to book appointment with?, how long required?, depending on reason of appointment.
Urgent Appointments
Same day appointments are useful for patients who need to be seen for medical attention on that day.

Triage
Dear Patient/ Service user
We are using form-based triage known as digital triage to try and cope with increased demand for appointments and reduce waiting time to get through the telephone lines.
We are using an online consultation system to gather information and support the triage of patients. This is to decide on what the most appropriate mode of care delivery is for that patient and to enable care to be provided by the right professional with the right level of urgency.
Appointments will be face to face, via telephone or online as advised depending on the best approach for you.
If your call is not urgent and you have access to the internet, please use the online services visit our practice website www.mgsmedicalpractice.nhs.uk for further information and complete the accurx patient triage online form giving a short explanation of why you need an appointment or what your query is about.
Non-digital users may be supported by carers or taken through the same online form by our reception team or by calling our patient partner telephone number 01902 229788 and let us know if you need assistance with your appointment for example any reasonable adjustments and or booking translation services ahead of your appointment.
MGS Medical Practice is a zero tolerance practice, please respect members of the team as they will need to ask certain questions so you are directed to the right professional or service.
We would like to thank you for your ongoing support and patience and let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend a booked appointment and keep us updated with any changes to your contact details especially if you have opted out of the online services.
Preferences can be updated by completing the accurx form to register online.
All messages are triaged and time is allocated for the doctor or nurse or clinical pharmacist to telephone patients. Please ensure a contact telephone number is given. If your condition deteriorates please call the practice again.

This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays). Difficulties Getting an Appointment
Our busiest times are Mondays-Friday, and busiest before 11am. If your appointment is not urgent, try to book on a less busy time and after 11am.
GP Extended Access
Practice is part of Primary care Networks, we all offer together appointments for patients when the surgery is closed and during bank holidays, weekends.
Please click here to view our extended hours opening times from 1st October 2022.
Missed Appointments
We are constantly trying to improve what we do for our patients. One thing we would like to do is reduce the number of missed appointments. Currently more than 100 appointments are missed each month. Missed appointments increase the wait for routine appointments for other patients. If you have ever had difficulty getting a routine appointment this is part of the reason. Please tell us in good time if you do not need your appointment –we can offer it to someone else.
Further Appointment Information
If you have an urgent but not life-threatening medical need, make sure you visit NHS 111 online first rather than going straight to A&E. NHS 111 online will help you right away and, if needed, a healthcare professional will call you.
NHS 111 online can direct you to an urgent treatment centre/walk in centre, emergency dental services, GP, pharmacy, or another more appropriate local service.
If you or your loved one has a life-threatening illness or injury, then you should always dial 999.
Please contact reception for further details and a registration form on how to access online services. Once you have registered you can access the online booking facility through the link patient accurx triage or telephone patient partner 01902 229788.
We offer 10 minute appointments or longer depending on clinical assessment and have a triage system, for medical emergencies.
Please note; If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, you may be asked to wait or offered another appointment.
We can arrange interpretation and translation services for patients who do not speak English. Please let us know when booking an appointment if you need this service.
Home Visits
Our doctor typically sees four patients at the practice in the time it takes to do a single home visit. For this reason, we ask our patients to come to the practice if at all possible. However, we can visit you at home if your condition means you cannot attend one of our premises.
If you feel that you need to request a home visit, we ask where possible that you contact the surgery before 11am, giving the receptionist details of the problem to record in the triage book, so that the health care professional can assess the situation.
Not Registered for Online Services?
Text Reminder Service
Text messaging, or SMS, is an increasingly popular tool for organisations to communicate with patients.
Such information can include appointment reminders and confirmations, prescription reminders, test results and other data for direct care purposes.
Text, or SMS, messaging benefits both patients and the organisation alike. For patients, it helps to improve access to care and levels of satisfaction whilst providing a more efficient delivery of services.
Benefits to the practice include easing the administrative workload whilst enabling administrative, and reception staff to focus upon providing a higher quality service.
please let us know any changes to contact details and complete fully the preferences of communication and consent forms
